What is the voice and how it begins

Many people have often heard the combination of “posing the voice” in music schools, but not everyone understands exactly what it means. Some people call it a set of exercises, designed to give the voice a certain style of singing, others think that this is its setting for correct singing, according to the requirements of vocal art. In fact, voice setting is the initial stage of learning vocal artdepending on its direction and the natural features of the voice of the beginning vocalist.

There is an academic and folk voice, jazz and pop, as well as a choral voice based on classical vocals. It includes not only vocal exercises, but also characteristic singing in the framework of the direction that suits you for voice development.

How is a voice different from vocal lessons?

Many music schools have vocal and voice lessons. At first glance, they almost do not differ from each other, but in fact they have different directions. If vocal lessons are designed to improve singing in a certain manner, voice setting is a common vocal exercise for beginners, the purpose of which is not only to determine the desired direction for the performer, but also to acquire compulsory skills such as breathing, developing articulation, overcoming clamps and etc.

In many music schools, where there are several directions of singing (for example, academic and pop vocals), there are lessons of the initial voice, the results of which will help you choose the most successful direction for further development. In the choral classes, there are also voice lessons, aimed not at developing the skills of solo singing, but at the initial vocal training. This is necessary for the voice to sound correctly in the choir and not stand out from the general choral sonority. Sometimes the setting of the voice refers to singing lessons for children under 10 years old with breathing exercises, learning difficult intervals, and learning pure intonation.

Therefore, those who do not yet know how to learn to sing from scratch, it is worth signing up for the lessons of the initial statement of the voice, in order to determine their further direction.. After all, there are voices that are more suitable for classical operatic vocals than for folk singing, and vice versa. And there are voices that are more suitable for solo singing than for choral or ensemble singing, in spite of teaching academic vocals. Setting the voice will allow you not only to get basic singing skills, but also to learn many interesting things about the features of your voice, its timbre, range, etc.

What begins the voice

The aim of the voice is to teach the initial skills of singing. It includes not only a set of exercises, but also the development of the performer’s auditory culture. Therefore, the teacher can give you not only special exercises, but also recordings of various singers, as improper singing, tightness in the voice and various inconveniences can be associated with a lack of auditory culture, because you can rarely hear opera arias or even correct singing. Many modern performers, in order to attract attention to themselves, are beginning to invent a catchy, but incorrect manner of singing, the imitation of which can lead not only to inconvenience, but also trauma to the vocal cords. Therefore, listening to the examples of correct singing is also included in the voice complex, and if your teacher has not given you examples yet, ask him about it yourself.

The next part of the voice is the formation of the respiratory support. These are various exercises with slow exhalations, hisses, and air pushes through the diaphragm, so that the voice has a solid respiratory support when singing. Voices with no breathing set sound very dim and their characteristic feature is the impossibility of holding long notes. They begin to fade and gradually lose their color and purity of intonation, so breathing will allow you to sing notes of various durations easily.

A voice training session includes the removal of various voice clips, which can hinder not only light singing, but also clear articulation. Beginners often have a discrepancy between speech and vocal voice, so it becomes difficult for them to pronounce words while singing. This barrier is easily overcome when all voice clamps are removed. You will not experience discomfort not only while singing, but even colloquially. And this will help you vocal exercises and chanting for beginners, simple but useful. Also, depending on the learning outcomes, the teacher may give you voice exercises in the direction most suitable for your voice.

In addition, the voice setting forms light singing in different parts of your range. You can easily sing not only high notes, but also bottoms. When you learn to sing freely and confidently, and your voice will have a clear intonation based on well-placed breathing, then you will be able to choose a direction for further study of vocal art. For some, it will be folk or academic singing, someone will choose pop or jazz. The main thing is your desire to sing, and teachers will tell you how to learn to sing from scratch and help you make the first steps in this beautiful art.
